BarTender helps global medical device manufacturer standardize RFID tag serialization
BarTender’s optimized labeling operations enable a medical device manufacturer’s centralized, standardized, compliant printing for SGTIN-96 RFID tags. The result: improved product tracking and enhanced patient safety.
Challenge
Labeling within the medical device sector requires strict adherence to various regulations, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unique device identification (UDI). These labeling constraints pushed a leading global medical device manufacturer to optimize its labeling operations to better print, manage, and leverage the data collected from its RFID tags. To achieve its operational objectives, the manufacturer needed a labeling system that could:
- Log print jobs and label data to an SQL database
- Generate custom CSV files and carry them over to an SFTP server
- Standardize and centralize label printing for its SGTIN-96 RFID tags
Action
The Seagull Scientific Sales Engineers and Professional Services deployed a backend integration between BarTender® Print Portal Server and the manufacturer’s SQL database using BarTender Administration Console in BarTender Enterprise Edition. The integration pushes the data collected from the company’s database to a SQL instance containing the label data and then to a BarTender Print Portal Server Form. The form’s preset fields enable users to input data easily and quickly on site and before the time of print. As soon as the user completes the form, the print job is logged back to their database and sent to a network or USB RFID printer to print.
Result
The manufacturer now uses BarTender Print Portal Server in BarTender Enterprise Edition to centrally store and manage their labels across all of their facilities printing RFID tags. The new labeling solution allows the manufacturer to standardize the serialization of their SGTIN-96 RFID tags – enabling them to better trace their products and improve patient safety.
