Redistribution of Existing BarTender Features
With the release of BarTender Version 7.75, some options for command line
parameter control have been moved from the Professional edition to the
Enterprise edition. At the same time, some features previously available
only in Professional and Enterprise are now also available in the Basic
edition.
Some Features for Command Line Control Moved to Enterprise
With the release of BarTender 7.75, a number of command line parameter
functions that are critical to Enterprise-level integration have been
discontinued in the Professional edition and retained in the Enterprise
editions only. This was done to better differentiate between the Professional
and Enterprise software editions, as well as because integration-level
technical support is more time-consuming than other types of support.

command line parameter changes.
Keep in mind that the Enterprise editions of BarTender provide a rich variety
of options for automated control from other software. This includes ActiveX
Automation for control by other Windows programs, as well as our Commander
utility, which makes BarTender controllable from non-Windows
programs. Almost all experienced software integrators prefer the
power and flexibility of these two integration techniques instead of using
command line parameters.
Former "Professional" Features Now Available in Basic Edition
With the release of BarTender version 7.75, some design capabilities
previously available only in the Professional and Enterprise editions are now
available in the Basic edition as well. These include:
-
2D bar codes
– All two-dimensional bar codes supported by BarTender are now available in
Basic.
-
Date and Time data sources
– The time and date data sources available in higher editions are now available
in Basic.
-
Selected features from the “More Options” property pages of the main
Object Properties dialog are now available in Basic:
-
Automatic Alphabetic or Numeric Serialization
– BarTender automatically senses at print-time whether the initial characters
in the data to be serialized are numeric or alphabetic and maintains
compatibility with that character set. (That is, if the characters to be
serialized start out as numeric, the serialized data will continue to be
numeric and, if the characters to be serialized start out as alphabetic, the
serialized data will continue to be alphabetic.)
-
Limited Prompting
– The Basic edition now allows you to prompt at print time for label object
data. However, not all Prompt dialog design features are provided. The Basic
edition allows you to rearrange prompt fields, but it does not let you augment
your prompt dialogs with supplemental objects such as lines, group boxes and
additional text. For full prompt design capability, use the Professional or
Enterprise editions.
-
Minimum/Maximum settings – The Basic edition now lets you specify the
minimum and maximum number of characters allowed for a label object. (This
includes padding support when insufficient characters are provided.)
