New Features in
"Drivers by Seagull" Version 7.0
Seagull
released "Drivers by Seagull" version 7.0 in September 2005. It supports all
editions of BarTender and contains many new features in addition to supporting
the RFID capabilities in the RFID Enterprise Edition. To download the new
drivers, visit:
Drivers by Seagull
Version 7
New features include:
-
Improved Support for 64-bit Operating Systems
– Full support for 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP
Professional has been added. All features in the 32-bit drivers are also
supported by the 64-bit drivers.
-
Downloaded Fonts
– The user interface for downloaded fonts has been reworked and many new
features have been added, including support for symbol fonts, Unicode, Hebrew,
Arabic and many other character sets. Downloaded bitmap fonts now support
fractional point sizes and scale factors.
-
Font Substitutions
– The font substitution feature allows each TrueType font to be substituted
with a specific printer font on a per-printer basis. This enables the design of
formats using nothing but TrueType fonts that can be shared between different
printer families. (BarTender's already-existing "substitute best matching
printer font" feature has long offered font substitution, but it does not allow
per-printer optimization the way that the new drivers do.)
-
User-Defined Optional Fonts
– This feature allows the driver to support optional fonts that are not built
into the driver. By supplying parameters describing the font on the printer,
such as ID, name, character set and memory location, you can define a font that
allows use of the optional font from within any Windows application. This
feature may also be used to access fonts downloaded with ZTools, ZebraNet
Bridge, PrintSet, LabelVista and other font download tools provided by printer
manufacturers.
-
Driver Command Font Additions – New "Driver Command Fonts"
have been added to support the printing of:
-
Circles
-
Diagonal lines
-
Rounded rectangles
-
White and inverse shapes
Printer Command Fonts and Driver Command Fonts have been available for some
time in Drivers by Seagull. They appear in the list of fonts displayed when any
Windows application uses an appropriate Seagull printer driver. They are
selected and placed on labels and documents where they are treated just as if
they are text objects. However, instead of printing text (as fonts usually do),
they are used to access a variety of printer and printer driver functions, some
of which print special objects and some of which simply configure the printer
or driver.
"Driver" and "Printer" command fonts can be used both from within BarTender and
other Windows applications. One especially powerful application, mainly useful
from within BarTender, is to use Driver command fonts for the conditional
printing of graphical objects based on data sourced information. You can turn
"on" or "off" graphical objects that get their data from external data sources
simply by providing (or not providing) the appropriate string for the
corresponding data sourced field.
-
Discontinued Operating Systems – As of Drivers by Seagull
version 7.0, Seagull Scientific no longer supports Windows NT 4.0 and Windows
95. Older drivers continue to be available for users of Windows NT 4.0 and
Windows 95, however Seagull Scientific will no longer offer technical support
for these drivers. To Download the older drivers, please click here:
