Asia-Pacific Offices Now in Full Operation;
Now Providing Sales, Shipping and Support
As we have for many years, Seagull Scientific continues to sell the majority of
its software through distributors and resellers. In the Asia-Pacific region,
this had been somewhat complicated by the fact that we did not for some time
have our own facilities there. Accordingly, we shipped product and
provided tech support to our Asia resellers from within the USA, so we were not
always able to assist them immediately or provide tech support to their end
users as easily.
Unfortunately, this approach only works to a point. For example, what happens
when a reseller's "big sale" finally comes through but he or she doesn't have a
sufficient stock of product? What if a reseller doesn't know the answer to a
customer's question and wants to talk to us right away, or wants to train some
new staff members? What if a customer has an emergency question and the
reseller isn't available? Clearly there will be situations when a large time
zone change and physical distance between our USA Headquarters and
customers can create business obstacles.
With all this in
mind, in the summer of 2003, we opened a full-service branch office in Taipei,
Taiwan, as well as a sales office in Japan. The Taiwan office handles presales
calls, stocks brochures, manufactures software, ships product daily (including
drop-shipping to end-users on request), and provides free technical support.
The office includes Japanese, Chinese and English-language speaking
capabilities.
The sales office in Japan supports presales questions and on-site reseller
training. (Tech support for Japanese customers is handled by our Japanese
speakers in the Taiwan office).
