New Printer Drivers Released for Godex,
Imaje, and Numerous Portable Printers
"Drivers by Seagull" version 6.7.1 has been released, including Seagull's debut
of support for the Godex and Imaje printer brands. Most of the remaining
new drivers are directed at portable printers, including those from Zebra,
Datamax and Intermec. The latest drivers are already shipping on new BarTender
CDs, but (as always) they are also available for free download from Seagull's
web page. (The new drivers are compatible with BarTender back to version 5.0.)
Among the new models supported is most of the Zebra portable printer line (formerly "Comtec"),
including the Bravo, Cameo, Encore and QL series. Also supported are the
Datamax Panther series and Intermec's PL4. Newly-supported fixed station
(non-portable) printers include the aforementioned Godex and Imaje families, as
well as the new Zebra R4M Plus (RFID-enabled) printer.
About Portable Label Printing
With their reduced size and increased battery life, portable label printers
have become increasingly popular in a variety of on-demand inventory control
and warehousing applications. Some portable printers are so light that they are
actually "wearable" by the user, whereas others are more typically rolled
around on a cart.
Many portable printers feature wireless connectivity, which allows BarTender to
transmit print jobs to them "over the air" using the Windows-standard TCP/IP
network protocol. That means that users can benefit from the convenience of
portable printing without having to worry about a costly or custom IT solution.
Some users of portable printers will also benefit from the Printer Code Template
(PCT) capability added to version 7.1 of the Enterprise edition of BarTender.
This function allows systems integrators to easily export BarTender printer
code using Drivers by Seagull and then reuse that printer code again and again
on other systems. The printer code contains embedded "tags" that define
locations in which applications, such as those running on handheld terminals
and even non-Windows platforms, can "fill-in" the desired label data at print
time.
