Relocated European Branch
Running Smoothly in Madrid

In July of 2002, Seagull completed the relocation of its European operations to Madrid, Spain. The office had previously been located in Houten (near Amsterdam). Jeremy Seigel, majority owner and CEO of Seagull commented, "The Netherlands was a great place to start up our European operations and our American employees just loved Amsterdam and Utrecht. In a surprising twist for us, however, the Netherlands had done such a remarkable job of keeping unemployment low that we struggled in our efforts to find additional people to hire. Furthermore, our employees also reported that the local housing market was extremely tight."

Meanwhile, Chris Brown, Seagull's European Outside Sales Manager had moved to Madrid a year earlier. "I've worked and played for many years in Europe and have always had a special love for Spain. So, after I finished setting up the office in the Netherlands, I worked with Seagull to set up my own personal base of operations down here. Needless to say, when Seagull started looking into possible new locations, I had a few thoughts on the topic!"

It wasn't long after the relocation of Seagull's European branch that their hopes were met with the very quick addition of three more employees to their European staff. "Some of our American employees mentioned that it was a bit "toasty" in the summer, but the transition has otherwise gone quite well and we're obviously thrilled to be growing our staff again," said Seigel.

Seagull ships all products with European, Middle East and African destinations out of the Madrid office. Chris Brown happily reminds anyone who will listen, "We've made a big effort to ensure that none of our established customers were adversely affected by the move. Our average shipment arrival time has remained unchanged and we've actually improved our tech support availability." (Chris has since been promoted to European Business Manager.)
