BarTender Web Print Server's Latest Features
About Version Compatibility
Web Print Server (WPS) should only be used with the same version (or higher) of
BarTender. Although WPS will often work with much newer versions of BarTender, we
strongly recommend that you use the latest WPS that has been formally tested for use with
your version of BarTender. Please see the
WPS download and WPS Service Release
pages to download the latest WPS available for your version of BarTender.
Summary of Features Added in Version 9.4
BarTender Web Print Server ("WPS") version 9.4 was tested to work with BarTender
versions 9.4.
WPS 9.4 became available on March 28, 2011 and introduced the following enhancements:
- Improved Validation: Prompt Dialog and Query Prompt panels now
validate input text as configured in the BarTender's label format, including minimum,
maximum, conversion to uppercase/lowercase, and ISO 646 validation.
- Improved Preview: Preview image now shows a preview of the first
label in the job, including data base field, shared substring, and query prompt
values.
- Added support for BarTender's new UserMessage VB Script built-in method to help
with validating print jobs and displaying print-time user messages in WPS.
- Added a new "Show Confirmation Message" option to the Administration page to allow
the user to turn off the print confirmation message dialog following a print submission.
- Label formats are now automatically saved when a shared sub string or query prompt
value changes.
- Improved the display performance of the Label Format Selection page.
Summary of Features Added in Version 9.3
BarTender Web Print Server ("WPS") version 9.3 was tested to work with BarTender
versions 9.3 and 9.4. However, if you are using BarTender 9.4 or higher, we recommend
using a newer WPS.
WPS 9.3 became available on November 19, 2010 and introduced the following enhancements:
- Java Print Client Support: This allows internet printing using
browsers such as Firefox, Chrome and Opera in addition to Internet Explorer which
was supported by the ActiveX print client (the Active X print client has not changed).
The Java Print Client module supports browsers running on Unix based operating systems.
- Print Directly to a Port: Having a matching printer driver installed
on the client is no longer needed, the client may select any printer installed on
the server. The user needs to only select printer port and the printer model attached
to the port.
- Print to TCP/IP printers connected on the client's network. An IP Address and port
can be selected in the Direct to Port dialog by selecting "New IP Address" in the
Printer Port control.
- Administration Page dialog has been changed to support the new printing options,
Direct to Port options, Client-side print module selection, and available Printer
Model selection.
- WPS version numbers will now track those of the current BarTender release. WPS 9.3
SR2 will only work with BT 9.3 SR2 and later versions.
- Support for BarTender prompt check boxes and radio buttons have been added. To use
these you must have at least BarTender 9.3 SR2 installed.
- Macintosh support has been added. Support is only for "Raw" Macintosh CUPS installed
printers. The Safari and Firefox browsers support all printing methods, Chrome and
Opera support standard windows printing only.
- Unix/Linux support has also been added. Firefox supports all printing methods. Chrome
and Opera support standard windows printing only.
Summary of Features Added in Version 1.1.19
BarTender Web Print Server ("WPS") version 1.1.19 was tested to work with BarTender versions 8.0 through 9.3. However, if you are using BarTender 9.3 or higher, we
recommend using a newer WPS.
WPS 1.1.19 became available on July 30th, 2009 and introduced the following enhancements:
- Full Translations Now Available: WPS version 1.1.19 introduced
translations of the WPS user-interface into all 23 languages supported by BarTender.
Prior to this update, the user-interface for browsing, selecting and printing labels
was only available in English and Japanese.
- Supports Acrobat 9.0 PDF Converter: For users wishing to "print"
labels to an Acrobat PDF file (instead of to a printer), BarTender Web Print Server
was originally tested with Acrobat version 5.0. With one of Adobe's updates to Acrobat
(some time after the initial release of Web Print Server), Adobe changed
the name of one of its Acrobat files. This prevented that and subsequent versions
of Acrobat from being used by WPS. This change has now been allowed for in version
1.1.19 of Web Print Server and fully tested using Acrobat version 9. Compatibility
with Acrobat versions 6 through 8 is assumed, but WPS has only been formally tested
by Seagull with Acrobat versions 5 and 9.
