Version 7.0 (Released: 9/9/2005)
This release adds many new features to the drivers, and also adds support for the new RFID Enterprise edition of BarTender.
Platform Support
We have added full support for 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Professional. AMD64 and Intel EM64T processors are supported (Itanium processors are not currently supported). All features supported by the 32-bit drivers are also supported by the 64-bit drivers. As of version 7.0, we no longer support Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95.
Downloaded Fonts
The downloaded font user interface has been reworked and many new features have been added, including support for symbol fonts, Unicode, Hebrew, Arabic, and many other character sets. Downloaded bitmap fonts now support fractional point sizes and scale factors.
Font Substitutions
The font substitution feature allows each TrueType font to be substituted with a specific printer font on a per-printer basis. This enables designing formats using nothing but TrueType fonts that can be shared between different printer families.
User-Defined Optional Fonts
This feature allows the driver to support optional fonts that are not built-in to the driver. By supplying parameters describing the font on the printer (such as ID, name, character set, and memory location), a user-defined font may be created that will allow the user of the optional font from applications. This feature may also be used to access fonts downloaded with printer-manufacturer-supplied font download tools. Currently supported in the following drivers: CAB, CPL, DPL, EPL, GDX, IDP, IPL, MON, PGL, PXL, TEC, and ZPL.
RFID Licensing Changes
Version 7.0 drivers still support RFID Fonts; however, you must have installed a licensed version of BarTender Professional, Enterprise, or RFID Enterprise version 7.72 or higher. The RFID Enterprise edition does not require the use of the driver's RFID fonts, as it has direct support for RFID objects.

- Print speed is now only sent if specified.

- The ZPL code has been formatted to be more easily readable, and reduce line lengths. This works better with Printer Code Templates.
- Read Printer Information dialog was overhauled.
- Fixed several problems with downloaded TrueType fonts.

Version 6.6 (Released 6/12/2003)
This release introduced support for new features such as status monitoring,
international device fonts, international downloaded TrueType fonts, font
cartridges, and printer template files. (These features have not yet been
implemented across all driver families but will be propagated over
time.)
New Features
- Optional printer fonts are now supported by the drivers. Currently, we have
support for Datamax's ILPC options, both font cards and ILPC-enabled firmware.
Optional fonts may be enabled from the "Installed Features" dialog.
- Device fonts and downloaded TrueType fonts are now supported in non-Western
codepages. This feature is currently supported by the DPL, PGL, and IDP
drivers.
- Downloaded fonts and bar code fonts are now managed from a new unified "Fonts"
page.
- A standardized Status tab has been added for status monitoring and other
maintenance features. The new tab includes new status monitoring features for
some drivers, as well as features formerly on the Testing page (also called
Device Settings or Printer Settings in certain drivers).
- Added support for BarTender's new "Printer Code Template" feature. This is
currently only supported by the DPL driver.
- The information reported by the Version dialog has been improved, and now
supports exporting information in text, RTF, or HTML format.
- The "Read Printer Information" dialog supported by several drivers has been
standardized. It has the same functionality as the Version dialog, and can
export information in text, RTF, or HTML format.
- Run-time status monitoring capability has been added to the drivers. Drivers
that support this feature now will provide notification when errors occur on
the printer, such as no paper or no ribbon. In 6.6, only the TEC driver
supports this functionality, but support for status monitoring in other drivers
is planned in the near future.
- Dialogs that read data from the printer, such as "Read Printer Information" and
"Configure" dialogs, now display a standardized Query dialog with the current
progress of the query, and allow canceling the operation.
- The online help has been converted to HTML Help, and many sections have been improved.
