Required for Automation and Enterprise Automation editions
Seagull License Server is a required component of a purchased Automation
or Enterprise Automation edition. It is not required or supported for the Basic
and Professional editions, or if you are using BarTender in its 30-day trial mode.
Seagull License Server is included on the product CD. Therefore, you only need to
download it from this page if you wish to install SLS before you receive your CD
or if you know that you need an update.
If you have an older version of BarTender, you should download the corresponding
older version of Seagull License Server from the
Service Release page.
Summary of Operation
Seagull License Server (SLS) is a software utility that monitors and enforces the
maximum number of allowable printers used by BarTender on a network. SLS only needs
to be installed on one computer on any given LAN or WAN and it runs unattended and
invisibly. SLS can be configured to operate as a Windows "service." This allows
it to run whenever the host computer is on, regardless of whether or not any users
are actually logged in.
Installing Seagull License Server
If you purchased the Automation or Enterprise Automation edition of BarTender, install
the Seagull License Server before installing BarTender on your WAN or LAN.
(Once SLS has been installed, that same computer can optionally be one of the computers
on which you also install BarTender.)
- Choose a computer on your network to host Seagull License Server. It can be any
computer, as long as it is accessible through your network from all of the workstations
on which you will run BarTender.
- Download and execute the Seagull License Server installation file (available below).
- Near the end of the installation, you will be given the option of running the
Activation Wizard, which provides full activation instructions. (You must
activate Seagull License Server in order for your BarTender license to become active
on your network.)
Citrix and Remote Desktop
If you are accessing BarTender remotely, using either Citrix XenApp or Windows Remote
Desktop, you must download and install the "SLS
Remote Assistant" component on each PC running the Citrix or Remote Desktop
client.
