New BarTender Version 7.0 Released as Biggest Upgrade Ever

BELLEVUE, WA, USA—September 23, 2002—BarTender 7.0 was officially launched at the Frontline 2002 show in Chicago this past September. The new release represents an especially productive year for Seagull's dedicated staff of developers and testers. As in past years, new features were primarily based on requests from Seagull's growing family of resellers and integrators.

"It's fun to think you're a creative genius," said Don Ray, Seagull's president, "and maybe a few of our people even are. But nobody hears the market pulse better than our resellers and they are the ones that have therefore had the really good suggestions over the years. They're the ones telling us, 'Hey, BarTender is great, but if it could only do so-and-so, I could sell another 100 copies. So we obviously have to share the credit for the design of our great new release."

New features include a database of over 2,500 blank label stock layouts representing most of the industry's major label manufacturers. Users can jump-start their new designs with exactly the right size blank forms simply by selecting a favored brand of labels and the desired label stock number.

Also new is the concept of instantly creating new bar codes from predefined bar code "components," instead of starting with a "default" format and then customizing it. For example, the Code 3-of-9 and Code 128 bar code languages are each used in dozens of ways by various AIAG, Logmars, EAN-UPC, and other standards. Now, with each of those bar code styles separately predefined in advance, users can "drag and drop" them into their labels in an instant and then move on quickly to the rest of their design work.

Other new features include a "print preview" that simulates the printing of an entire label job on screen using the same database data that will actually be printed from. This means users don't have to print and waste real labels to ensure that their print job is properly set up and formatted. Also new are on-screen text editing, "rich text" (mixed text style) formatting, and object rotation in 1 degree increments.

One of the most exciting feature additions is BarTender's new "Toolbox," which greatly speeds up the bar code creation and database linking process.

BarTender is available in three editions, Enterprise, Professional, and Basic, which guarantee every level of user a label design and production tool that is right for their needs. For more details, please visit the BarTender section of our web site.
