Service Release Overview

The Service Release on this page can only be used to upgrade existing installations of BarTender versions 7.70 and higher. (It will not upgrade earlier versions of BarTender.)

Important Information about Versions 7.70 and 7.71

Users of any BarTender version 7.7x or higher can download the latest service release at their option.  However, because BarTender versions 7.70 and 7.71 could actually print an incorrect bar code under certain conditions, users of these versions are strongly urged to download and install the service release.

v7.75 SR2 is Compatible with Windows Vista

BarTender version 7.75, Service Release 2 (released January 18, 2007) is the first version of BarTender to be modified, tested, and approved by Seagull for operation on Windows Vista. Users of 7.70 or higher can update their software right now for free. However, users of earlier versions of BarTender will need to purchase an  upgrade .  For more details about our testing and operation on Windows Vista, please see our Vista compatibility statement.

Installation Instructions

Be sure to remove any existing installation of v7.7x before installing the update. If you will be installing the BarTender service release on the same computer, you do not need to deactivate your existing software upon uninstalling. (That will save you from having to activate again upon installation of the service release.)

If You Already Received and Installed an Earlier Version of 7.7x

• Please use the “Add/Remove Programs” function of the Windows Control Panel to uninstall the existing BarTender software.
• Download and install the service release.
• If you deactivated your existing BarTender software, then (when prompted) enter the Product Key Code (PKC) that came with your original software.

If You Received but Never Installed an Earlier Version of 7.7x

• Download and install the service release instead of the BarTender software that you previously received. However, when prompted for a Product Key Code (PKC), provide the one that came with your original software.

If You Never Received an Earlier Version of 7.7x

• Like all copies of BarTender, the service release can be installed and run as a 30-day Trial Edition. However, if you never received a real copy of BarTender, you will likely not be able to supply an appropriate Product Key Code (PKC) when prompted. The newly downloaded copy of BarTender would therefore become a “demo version” after its first 30-days of normal, unlimited use.

Because the multilingual edition supports instant switching between more than 20 languages, it takes somewhat longer to download than the English-only edition. (The supported languages can be seen in the list of BarTender "Getting Started" Manuals.)

If you are updating an Enterprise installation, you will also want to update Seagull License server. (This is not needed for Basic and Professional editions.)
